Today IBM DataStage announced the beta for its new SaaS-based data integration solution DSaaS on IBM Cloud.

DataStage has undergone a complete transformation towards a modern cloud-native true micro-service-based re-architecture. With this beta, DataStage is now available on the IBM cloud as a true SaaS, cloud-first experience. Transformed DataStage should be available on IBM Cloud Pak for Data as well in near future. It means no complex deployment planning or installation challenges for different tiers.

With this DSaaS beta, DataStage is now part of larger IBM Data and AI platform. It now shares multiple platform concepts and services like projects, environments, jobs, flows, orchestration, connections, etc. Its canvas where users can create new DataStage flows (existing users call it jobs) use open source project Elyra. DataStage now adopted a new open-source JSON standard to manage its flow designs. With schema is publicly available user can leverage it to create innovative templates for their analytical pipelines.

As DataStage design schema has gone through a complete transformation, IBM DataStage (DSaaS) also providing an import function to existing DataStage users. Using this feature existing users can seamlessly convert their parallel jobs created for over 20+ years to the modern published schema. Server jobs need to be converted to parallel jobs before migration – more on this topic later with details.

Sign up for the DataStage as a service beta here. Getting started coming next with the sample.
